Riffelhof Vineyards sits on the Californian Sierra Nevada mountains inside the Squaw Valley-Miramonte American Viticultural Area. This AVA is one of the newest in the US but was almost destroyed before it could be launched.
The Squaw Valley Grape Growers Group had been working to establish the AVA. Then on August 7th 2015, the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) published a final rule which would officially establish the AVA on September 8th. All the AVA had to do was wait.
But waiting turned out to be the hardest part. During the 30 day waiting period, a large wild fire began sweeping through the area. It had decimated numerous acres inside the newly designated region. Would the AVA wineries and vineyards survive until September 8th?
Luckily, the crew of local Mountain Valley Fire Department “Company 65” was prepared. The wildfire was contained by Company 65’s rapid-response with minimal damage to the fledgling AVA and the vineyards were spared.
We are proud to honor the courage and sacrifice made by the crew of Company 65 in keeping our community safe during wildfires and other first-response situations. In deep appreciation, Riffelhof Vineyards has crafted a special release from the Zinfandel grape varietal that won back-to-back medals from the San Joaquin Valley Winegrowers Association. We call it: “Rapid-Response Red”.
It’s bold, fervent and confident, just like the crew of Company 65.
PROCEEDS FROM THE SALE OF EVERY BOTTLE OF RAPID-RESPONSE RED WILL DIRECTLY BENEFIT COMPANY 65.
